What causes rosacea?

The causes of rosacea vary from person to person and can be hereditary. The redness of the facial skin, often appearing on the cheeks, is associated with the dilation of small visible blood vessels. There are four different subtypes of rosacea. For some people, rosacea may be caused by diet or sun-damaged skin; for others, alcohol consumption triggers the condition.

Yes, laser treatments that address rosacea do leave the skin initially more sensitive to the sun and thus sunscreen should be used and direct sun exposure limited in the days following treatment. You should wear sunscreen daily to protect your skin and prevent damage.

Are multiple treatments necessary?

You may need several treatments, based on your individual skin condition, and the severity of your rosacea. A series of four to six treatment sessions may be recommended. You can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities.
